Islamic Philosophy

For a long time, Islamic philosophy was under a cloud of uncertainty. This resulted from the majority of people who denied its existence while others affirmed it. This uncertainty continued through out the nineteenth century. Those who denied the very existence of an Islamic philosophy produced ignorance and maintained that the teachings of Islam opposed many free discussion and investigation. This may cause one to believe that for this reason Islam has not fully been exposed to philosophy throughout the centuries of its existence. Fortunately, the nature and philosophy of Islam may be clearly outlined in the study of both the holy Quaran and the way of life and teachings of the prophets of Islam. One of the most respected and most celebrated contributories to the pure understanding and knowledge of Islam is the prophet Muhammad. His philosophies and ways of life outline and guide an immense  amount of Muslim’s across the globe carrying on to our current generation and society.

The life of Prophet Muhammad

Muhammad was born in Makkah, Arabia, around the year 570 in His name means "highly praised." He was the last prophet of the religion of Islam. Muhammad was born amidst a polytheistic society. He was saddened and sick of the corrupt society around him. He then spent amply amounts of his time deep in thought in communion with the unseen yet All-Pervadasive God. One night, while he was meditating, the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to him. This marked the beginning of Muhammad’s prophetic life.  Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of God, Allah  therefore, the philosophies delivered by Muhammad come from God. There are many Islamic theories that many Muslims follow doctrinally, these theories and ways of life allow Muslims to effectively and convincingly follow the path towards true enlightenment.

The purity of an Individual

Islam believes that each person is “born pure, a clean sheet if you will” (www.alislam.org). The Holy Quaran tells us that God has given human beings a choice between good and evil and to seek God’s pleasure through faith, prayer and charity. Islam’s main message is to worship God and to treat all God’s creation with kindness, equality and compassion. The rights of parents, orphans and the needy are clearly stated and should be well treated and aware. Women’s rights were and always will be protected, and they are truly respected and looked upon as the seeds to life and development. The unconditional respect and honor towards women in Islam is a very important mentality to posses. Islamic teachings encompass every imaginable situation and its convention and principles are truly universal and have stood the test of time.

Islamic Principles

Islam encourages one to lead a healthy, active life with the qualities of kindness, chastity, honesty, mercy, courage patience and politeness. The religion and its theories may appear firm to an unbeliever, however, once a person is convinced and is faithful to the religion and the philosophies behind it, outlined by the Prophet Muhammad, it becomes an adaptable way of life regardless of human changes.

Acceptance
